Background Info
Zika Virus is from the same family of viruses as West Nile, Dengue, and yellow fever (flavivirus). Zika Virus can be transmitted through mosquito bites, sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, and from a pregnant woman to her unborn child. Main symptoms include fever, rash, headache, joint pain, red eyes, and muscle pain. During pregnancy, birth defects can be present in a fetus’ brain due to infection, primarily microcephaly.
