Background Info

Minute Virus of Mouse is a single stranded DNA virus of the family Parvoviridae, genus Parvovirus. The virus is nonenveloped, roughly spherical with a diameter of 20-25 nm. There are no pathological changes associate with MVM, however mice infected in less than a few days from birth can develop fatal disease. This virus is very common in laboratory mice. It is highly infectious in nature and spreads by urine and feces of acutely infected mice by the nasal-oral route. Aerosol transmission is rare. Mice, laboratory and wild type, are the only natural hosts of MVM.
