Background Info

Rabies is a viral infection that occurs primarily in mammals. It is caused by lyssavirus and is most commonly spread from saliva transmission or a bite from an infected animal. The most common animals that can be infected with Rabies are dogs, raccoons, skunks, foxes, and coyotes. Human Rabies infection can result in death if not treated properly. Major symptoms of Rabies in humans are hydrophobia, cognitive dysfunction, aggressive, hallucinations, and insomnia. The onset of these symptoms can take anywhere from 2-10 days and if not treated are almost always fatal.
