Mycoplasma Detection

XpressBio offers both PCR and qPCR for screening of cell culture supernatants for mycoplasma contaminations

Mycoplasma contamination has always been an issue for scientists all over the world due to its damage to cell culture. Mycoplasma contamination in cell culture can go undetected since it can be microscopic, which is why it is vital to have a reliable mycoplasma detection testing routine.

More than a quarter of all animal cell cultures are contaminated with mycoplasmas and mollicutes. The most found strains in cell cultures that have a total probability of 94% are: M. fermentans (47%), M. hyorhinis (19%), M. orale (10%), M. arginini (9%), A. laidlawii (6%) and M. hominis (3%).

The following strains were found with lower probability: M. gallisepticum, M. pneumoniae, M. salivarium, M. synoviae, and S. citri.

XpressBio’s Mycoplasma Detection Kits are able to detect these mollicute strains as well as 150 additional strains

  • Detects over 150 cell culture-relevant mycoplasma strains
  • Generate results in less than 3 hours
  • Easy to follow protocols
